Collective Worship is central to the life and purpose of our school and reflects the school’s Christian vision of 'Belonging, Believing, Becoming' rooted in Mark 4: 30-32 ‘The Parable of the Mustard Seed’.
Then Jesus said, ‘How can I show you what the kingdom of God is like? What parable can I use to explain it? The Kingdom of God is like a mustard seed. The mustard seed is the smallest seed you can plant in the ground. But when you plant this seed, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants. It produces large branches. Even the wild birds can make nests in it and be protected from the sun.’
Our collective worship reflects our Christian values, focusing on one each term ‘Perseverance’, ‘Respect’, ‘Forgiveness’, ‘Truth’ and ‘Aspiration'.
It focuses our thoughts on God and helps us to reflect on our own actions and attitudes.
At St John's Church of England Academy we recognise the value of daily collective worship to allow pupils to talk about what they see and hear from the Bible, our six Christian values, and how it impacts on all aspects of life, both in and out of school. Collective worship is planned to include biblical material and Christian teaching, focusing on Jesus Christ and on God as Father and Holy Spirit. Worship is led by the school staff, pupils, our vicar Rev Sarah Bick and the local 'Open the Book' team. Pupils take an active part in worship and we welcome in visitors from a range of faiths that help us explore our locality and the world around us.
We celebrate our children's achievements through a weekly celebration worship in which we recognise those children who, for many reasons, have excelled and grown in their learning or another aspect of their lives and have demonstrated our Christian values throughout the school week.
Shining Star
A Termly 'Shining Star' Worship is held every term to celebrate individuals who have gone above and beyond and embodied the Christian Values we hold at St John's Church of England Academy.
Prayer Spaces
At St. John’s we aim to create an environment where children are given space and time to reflect and pray in their own personal way. The school encourages children and adults to offer prayers at different times of the church year and within the school year .
